ONCE and Miranza: collaboration for better ophthalmic care
Spain’s national organisation for the blind ONCE and Miranza have implemented a collaboration agreement to offer the best ophthalmic coverage to members, workers and pensioners of the ONCE Social Group (comprised of ONCE, the ONCE Foundation and Ilunion). The agreement, signed by ONCE General Manager Ángel Sánchez Cánovas and Miranza General Manager Ramón Berra de Unamuno, also targets the promotion and encouragement of our active collaboration in the creation of dissemination and training initiatives.
Access to broad ophthalmic coverage
The members of ONCE will have preferential access to and special conditions in the services offered by Miranza. This includes diagnostic tests, injections, lenses, refractive surgery, telemedicine, domiciliary care, pick-up, accompaniment to the clinic and drop-off. The group is a leader in ophthalmic excellence in Spain, with 15 clinics and 12 consultation centres nationwide. The implemented agreement constitutes another step forward in our mission of making excellence in ophthalmology available to the greatest possible number of people.
In addition, our dissemination and training initiatives allow us to step up our efforts in relation to prevention and patient accompaniment at all stages of eye disorders. At Miranza, we are not only leaders in medium- and high-complexity surgery. Our Poor Vision areas are one example of our dedication to the support and accompaniment of patients who are blind or have very little remaining sight. We also promote pioneering basic research projects, most of which deal with the development of future gene and cell therapies to allow restoration of eyesight or slowing of vision loss in patients with diseases for which there are no treatments at this time.
Joint training and dissemination between ONCE and Miranza
As part of the agreement, Miranza is to provide training initiatives for patients and professionals, as well as dissemination programmes and activities regarding techniques and new treatments. In addition, Miranza is to announce clinical trials for which ONCE members may be eligible. Furthermore, we shall organise talks and conferences aimed at those who are associated with the ONCE Social Group regarding matters related to ophthalmology, visual disorders, prevention and pertinent breakthroughs.
Under the agreement, ONCE is committed to providing information on its services to all Miranza’s patients and their family members who meet membership requirements. Information will also be provided on the requirements through training and informational initiatives that target our medical personnel and staff in departments such as Patient Care or our Poor Vision and Vision Therapy areas.
